Pray 4 Gaza!

Week 10th Reflection

Assalamualaikum and welcome to our blog :)

On this week, we learned about Long-Term memory.

On 6th December 2012, we have our group discussion about our animal training.

Week 9th Reflection

Assalamualaikum.

Praise to Allah that we are still alive today!
We started the class with recitation of Du'a as usual. Before we begin our next topic, Madam did ask us to recall last meeting's discussion. After a brief discussion about the last meeting. Then, we move to another subtopic which is the information processing. It is very much related to storage system. First, madam asked us to draw 50 cents on a piece of paper by solely depends on our memory. Guess what happen? Are we succeed to do that? Yes! we may draw it, but it obviously incorrect. We tend to locate the "50" in the middle rather than its real location that is in the lower part of the coin. Why is that happen? It is because that "50" we are remember most. Thus, we came to realized that psychologist is not solely depend on memory because it is NOT 100% reliable.

We also learn that there are three major types of memory; sensory memory, working memory and Long-Term memory.

Our focus on today lecture is regarding to sensory memory or also known as sensory register. Interestingly, our capacity of sensory memory is very large as long as our senses can detect the stimuli. Yet, the duration is very short range from 1 to 3 seconds only.

We may perceive things through our five senses, but we might can never remember everything that we had perceived! For example, we do remember that we met our friend yesterday, but we are most likely to be disable to recall his/her attire completely. This is happen because we do not paying attention to it at all. It is no important to us. Thus, to have an effective memory, switch the information to a meaningful information for you.

There are 7 factors that influencing our attention.

1) Motion
2) Size
3) Intensity
4) Novelty
5) Incongruity
6) Emotion
7) Personal significance

After knowing these information, we are really hope that instead of gain knowledge, we are capable to apply it into practice suit to students daily task.

Last but not least, Allah knows best. Wassalam :)

Week 8th Reflection

Assalamualaikum.

On this week is our Mid-Term break.

So, we have our holiday and everyone going back home and enjoy their holiday ^_^

Week 7th Reflection

Assalamualaikum and welcome to our blog again :)

6/11/2012, Tuesday

Today as usual we continue our previous lesson on modelling. What is modelling?
Modelling is basically on of the learning process and still, it is about our behavior. As social cognitive theorists suggest that a good deal of our learning comes from observing and modelling what other people do. To clarify, the term "modelling" here is to explain what a model does (i.e. demonstrate a behavior) and sometimes to describe what the observer does. So, from our discussion in the class, we found out that there are three categories of models;

1) Live Model - an actual person that demonstrating a particular behavior.

2) Symbolic model - a person/character that portrayed in a film, TV, comic, book or etc.

3) Verbal instructions - the descriptions of how to behave in the correct way.

We also came to know that modelling affects behavior very well. The effects are;

1) Teaches new behaviors.

2) Influences the frequency of previously learned behaviors.

3) Encourage previously forbidden behaviors.

4) Increases the frequency of similar behaviors.

Nevertheless, not all the models are effective in affecting our behavior. There are several characteristics of effective models that we learnt from today's lecture.

Last but not least, learning from modelling does not simply occurs. It needs to undergo several stages. Those stages are from attention - retention - motor reproduction - motivation.

To end this discussion, we would like to quote some words from our beloved lecturer;

"We all are the potential models even though we do not have any position. Regardless of what circumstances, observe ourselves, because someone might observe you!"

8/11/2012, Thursday

The new topic for today's discussion is really attracts our interest. It is very close related to our everyday tasks as a student. Cognitive theories of learning is the topic for today's lecture. we would like to summarize our meaningful discussion today. As we know that human do have emotions, feelings, memories, goals and also intelligence. And those are concern about the cognitive. It can be interrelated to one another. As our lecturer says, if you are happy during lecture is fine, but however if you are extremely happy while seeking knowledge, then it will be trouble. Why? It can affect your cognitive level. You might remember everything that you learn during lecture. When it comes to exam, you might recall nothing. So, be moderate.

The cognitive theories of learning comes to existence because there are topics that the behaviorist choose not to explain further, curious on the way how individual process the stimuli  that they encounter and to explain why human look at things and process it differently. Other that basic assumptions of Cognitive theorists and the scope of learning, we were also learn about the critical role of memory. For cognitivist, learning only occurred when information is stored in long term memory in an organized way. Meaning that, the information is meaningful to us. Some contributors to this theory are introspection and Gestalt Psychology. Perceptual set or Gestalt Psychology is an interesting concept. It approve that our perceptions are active, lively and organized. Some of the Gestalt Principles are; Similarity, proximity, closure, good continuation and many more.

Week 6th Reflection

Assalamualaikum and welcome again :)

One essential lesson for this week reflection is about READY. Always get ready and be prepared for anything because we don't know what thing or matter that waiting for us. We talked about this matter due to our sudden "POP QUIZ". That is why it is call "POP", because you will not know about it existence. On this week, we have our second "POP QUIZ". For better result in the future, we need to always get ready!

Week 5th Reflection

The Ferber Method.

1. Will you use this with your baby? Why or why not?

Answer:

1. No, we would not apply the Ferber Method towards our baby. This is because, in our Malay's environment, baby from the age 5 or 6 months is still sleeps with their mother. At this age, the baby still attach to the mother as the mother needs to breastfeeding the baby. Therefore, if the mother left the baby for 5 minutes as the Ferber Method suggest in day one, we think it will affect the baby's attachment to the mother. The baby might feel insecure because they did not get what they want. In Malay culture, if the baby cries, it is the sign that the baby is hungry and need the mother's breastfeeding and sometimes may be their diapers already occupied.

2. Analyse this method in terms of its application of learning theories.

Answer:

2. The Ferber method use the variable interval schedule. In this method, the mother only reward the first response displayed after varying time interval. In this case, the baby will keep crying and maintain the behavior until he or she get the reward. It is because, the baby know that if he keep maintain the behavior, eventually he or she will still get the reward.

Week 4th Reflection

Assalamualaikum. Welcome again :)

I will talk about what we have did in the fourth week of the class.

As usual, we enter the class and start with Du'a.

We start our learning session as usual. At this time, we don't have any activity in group.

At the end of the class, Our lecturer give us some briefing about our coursework throughout this semester.

We have like 5 assessment to finished up to get A in our Learning of Psychology.

On Thursday, our lecturer could not attend the class because she has meeting. So, our group gather at the class to have discussion about our coursework.

We finished the discussion around 3.15 P.M.

Alhamdulillah, on this week, we got many information about our coursework throughout the semester. We hope we will get A for this Learning of Psychology. ^_^

Week 3rd Reflection

Assalamualaikum. Hi Guys :)
Now, we'll going to talk about what we have studied on the third week.

On Tuesday, We've learned about Instrumental Conditioning.

Instrumental conditioning is another word for operant conditioning, a learning process first described by B.F Skinner. In instrumental conditioning, reinforcement or punishment are used to either increase or decrease the probability that a behavior will occur again in the future.

For example, if a student is rewarded with praise every time she raises her hand in class, she becomes more likely to raise her hand again in the future. If she is also scolded when she speaks out of turn, she becomes less likely to interrupt the class. In these examples, the teacher is using reinforcement to strengthen the hand-raising behavior and punishment to weaken the talking out of turn behavior.

The picture above shows one of the examples of operant or instrumental conditioning. It is called "Skinner Box".

Apart from that, we had an activity in group, which we do a comparison between classical conditioning and operant or instrumental conditioning based on the story from each groups.

On Thursday, our lecturers could not attend to the class because she have work to do. So, she prepared for us some works.

Our group could not manage to get good information about the works that had been given by the lecturer.

3 P.M - most of the groups have finished the works but we just started to photostat and do the works. Alhamdulillah we still manage to finished our works.

As for conclusion, we hope that we will not repeat our mistakes again and we will try to do our best in the future. InsyaAllah.

That's all from us :) Thank you and have a nice day.

Week 2nd Reflection : TEMPOYAIKZ

Assalamualaikum. Thanks again for visiting our blog. :)

This is our story about Albert.

Albert is a 4 years old boy.

When Albert was 3 years old, his usual diet was rice and vegetables, one day the mother was having her lunch. They are having "Gulai Tempoyak" and feeding Albert at the same time. However, accidently, she feed Albert with "Gulai Tempoyak" instead of his usual watermelon, Albert reacted to the tempoyak. Since that phenomenon, Albert Started to react whenever the mother feed him with watermelon and tempoyak.

Albert mother was so sad because she love tempoyak so much but Albert hate it. So, she planned to make Albert to eat tempoyak. One day, Sarah feed Albert with tempoyak and he started to cry. Then she snaps her finger and gives him a chocolate. Since then, whenever Sarah snaps her finger, Albert knows that he will receive chocolate and he will smile whenever Sarah snaps her finger. Next, Sarah gives Albert tempoyak and snaps her finger at the same time and gives Albert a chocolate. After few sessions, Albert started to familiarize with tempoyak because he knows that he will reward with a chocolate.

When Albert grown up, whenever he saw a yellowish food, he starts to avoid it. One day, his friend Neelofa took him to a restaurant, unfortunately he saw only yellowish food left at the restaurant. He refused to eat but neelofa convincing him by saying "that is not tempoyak, honey". He took a small amount of "masak lemak cili api" just to taste it. Once he ate that "masak lemak cili api", he starts to differentiate between tempoyak and "masak lemak cili api".

After he finished his semester, Albert furthers his study to Ohio University. One of his roommate love to eat sandwich and coleslaw that have a special yellow thousand island sauce. At first place, when his roommate invite him to join eat the food together, he feel nausea. After some trial, he finally agrees to taste the food. He starts to like that food and forget about his yellowish food that he dislike.

After 5 years, he comeback to Malaysia and one of the dish that his mother prepares for him is the "Gulai Tempoyak". He does not have any feeling about that "Gulai Tempoyak", neither eat it nor avoid it.

Eventhough he did not like the "Gulai Tempoyak" after knowing the way it was prepared, he refused to eat it. So, his mother takes an initiative to put his favorite seafood which is prawn into the "Gulai Tempoyak". Before this, usually his mother put chicken in it, but she change to prawn because Albert love to eat prawn. Then, when he sees the prawn in the tempoyak, he starts to like it and eat it. He starts to love tempoyak with the prawn in it. Then, after a while he is starting to like the "Gulai Tempoyak" even with prawn or with chicken.

This is the story about Albert. I hope you all will enjoy reading. Thank You!

Our Second Meeting

Assalamualaikum.

Alhamdulillah because we have successfully meet again to discuss about our assignment and to make a story about Tempoyaikz. We met on 27th September 2012.  ^_^

The second meeting was attended by all group members and we started our discussion from 8pm until 12am to finish up our story. Finally we finished our story and we will publish it at the next post. InsyaAllah :)

Week 1st Reflection

Assalamualaikum. This is our first week reflection.

We are the six different person of Little Albert group. We are now seeking “learning” from psychology point of view. During our second until fourth class, we learnt different topics with lots of different fun activities done by our beloved lecturer named Dr. Lihanna Borhan. Those activities were interesting, exciting and very close related to the lesson. Behind every activity that she taught us, there must be an objective to achieve and it is also means to bring us closer to our Creator, Allah S.W.T.

Our First Meeting

Alhamdulillah. On 20th September 2012 we all had our meeting at the library. We met and discuss about our assignment and about our first reflection.

Everyone was attend the meeting and the meeting was finished successfully. Alhamdulillah
